Katie Burke

Katie Burke grew up in a military family moving around until she was 15 when her dad retired in Jacksonville, NC. Her mom homeschooled her and her three older siblings through high school. Katie came to faith at a very young age and was blessed to have godly parents who discipled her and encouraged her questions as she grew older and matured in her faith. They also encouraged her to learn from some of the wise older women in their church who taught her godly disciplines. 
She graduated from the College at Southeastern with a Bachelors of Art in English and TEOFL certification which she originally had plan to use to teach english as a second language overseas as a missionary. During college, she began teaching preschool to work her way through her degree debt free. After the Lord closed the door on overseas missions, the school hired her as a kindergarten teacher where she taught for three years and was certified to teach K-8th grade. 
She recently married her husband Matt Burke on July 15th. They met through their church's Young Professionals ministry which has helped both of them grow in the Lord. 
Katie is excited to join the HLA family and the opportunity to teach 2nd grade!
