I come from a family with generations of teachers and farmers from Eastern NC. Perhaps it was inevitable that, following my graduation from NCSU, I began my career teaching high school science in a rural k-12 public school. After motherhood, I transitioned to teaching part-time in an adult literacy lab at the community college and tutoring in math and science. This period was formative in my understanding of how some students struggle and I truly began to understand techniques for helping a diverse range of learners. In 1983, not long after it became legal, I began homeschooling my children; a career which lasted 23 years! During these two decades, I developed a testing business within the homeschool community, taught in an online environment and traveled the country teaching science workshops. In 2016 I was surprised when God opened the door for me to work in the office of administration for non-public schools at the state level.

After such a winding professional path, I am thrilled to join the team at Heritage Leadership Academy and hope to use my diverse experiences to benefit our students, families and faculty. Coming from both the traditional and homeschool educational models helps me bridge the gap as we navigate curriculum and instructional planning and implementation in the University Model. I am excited about the possibilities this model provides to build family relationships and provide exceptional education to a wide range of students. I most enjoy researching curriculum and learning strategies to develop workshops for both teachers and co-teachers on how to effectively move students forward academically.

My husband and I enjoy outdoor activities and grandchildren! We serve at Bridgepointe Church where we lead Precept Bible Studies.
